What is Aerial Yoga?
A practice known for its spinal decompression benefits, aerial yoga is the use of a two-way stretch fabric hammock to support poses for a deeper, more connected experience.
What is Ashtaerial?
Pronounced “aš-t-erēəl”, Ashtaerial is an approach to Aerial Yoga inspired by the Eight Limbs of Yoga. Ashtaerial is the union of “Ashta” meaning Eight in Sanskrit and “Aerial”, in reference to the hammock used to lift your yoga practice from the mat. Our mission is to help students reach their mobility goals with the support of an aerial yoga hammock.

Kaye Peñaflor / founder & lead instructor
Proudly Filipina-Canadian, Kaye is the multi-passionate founder of Ashtaerial. Her journey began with hot yoga which quickly became a regular “self care” practice. Seeing how yoga opened the door to mindfulness and a connection back to her body, Kaye eagerly followed this path of wellness to a point where her connection as a practitioner sparked the desire to help others discover the same benefits within themselves. She then became a certified yoga teacher starting her education at Balance Life Yoga in Ajax, ON, to quickly obtaining certification as an aerial yoga teacher through Zero Gravity Aerial Yoga through P3 Yoga in Pickering. Her education continued with an intensive experience in India at Kranti Yoga School in Goa, followed by studying the traditional practice of Ashtanga yoga under the guidance of Sharath Jois in Mysore, India. Specializing in Vinyasa, Aerial, Pre & Postnatal Yoga, Acro Yoga, Yin & Restorative Yoga, Kaye recently added the Functional Range Conditioning certification to complement her teaching style.
After over a decade of work as a serial yogipreneur, Kaye’s experience spans the industry through her former company, “kaye.yoga”. From producing signature programs like “Pineapple Flow” – a somatic approach to cultural dance which was developed during her time as a lululemon Ambassador, to hosting and producing “Live Breathe Yoga” – a nationally televised series in English on Filipino TV, to co-producing “Next Level OM”, a specialty yoga retreat featuring Aerial, SUP and Acro Yoga.
A cause Kaye cares most about is ending violence against women and girls. Moonbeam is a fundraising event she first produced in November 2018 that has been lighting the path to help end violence against women since. Aligned with the 2023 International Women’s Day theme “DigitALL: technology and innovation for gender equality”, this years Moonbean will highlight the importance of protecting women in digital and public spaces through digital art, activities, and advocacy. Kaye has been creatively connecting people with a stronger, healthier relationship with themselves since 2012 and has recently been featured as one of Canada’s Top Fitness Instructors 2023 in Impact Magazine.
